Aiming to utilise land resources and further improve outdoor public parking facilities in the Zape district, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced in a statement on Monday that an outdoor plot near Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has been converted into a temporary outdoor public carpark named the “Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes Public Carpark” (高美士街公共停車場). The facility will provide a total of 145 parking spaces, comprising 42 for light vehicles and 103 for motorcycles.

In the first phase, the 42 light vehicle spaces will open to the public at 10:00 a.m. next Wednesday to help ease outdoor parking demand in the area. The motorcycle parking zone will open immediately after construction work is completed, the statement said.

The carpark will comprise a light vehicle parking zone at the junction of Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes and Rua de Xiamen, and a motorcycle parking zone located near MPU along Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes. Entrances and exits for both zones are located on Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes.

The carpark will implement a “free for the first 15 minutes” policy, followed by half-hourly charging increments, the statement said, adding that parking fees are split into day and night rates per 30 minutes. For light vehicles, the fee is set at 3.0 patacas per half hour during daytime hours and 1.5 patacas at night. For motorcycles, the rate is 1.0 pataca per half hour during the day and 50 avos at night.

The statement noted that the facility will rely on an electronic payment system supporting options such as MPark automatic payment, Macau Pass, MPay, and UnionPay QuickPass. Payments via cash or manual electronic transfer at the service counter will only be accepted during system malfunctions, and drivers must exit the carpark within 15 minutes of payment.

The bureau pledged that it will closely monitor the operation of the carpark and the progress of remaining construction work to open the remaining spaces to the public as soon as possible, the statement added.
