Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers seized 15 kg of bird’s nest at the Hengqin checkpoint on July 8.
According to the statement, on that day, customs officers at the checkpoint noticed an anomaly during a routine X-ray inspection of a single-plate vehicle from Macau en route to Hengqin.
Upon inspection, customs officers discovered a batch of bird’s nest concealed in a modified compartment behind the second row of the vehicle’s seats, weighing a net total of nearly 15 kilograms.
Zhuhai’s Customs reminded the public that transporting or carrying goods or items into the Chinese mainland that are prohibited, restricted, or subject to import duties – by concealing them or otherwise evading Customs control – constitutes a smuggling offence. Serious cases that constitute a criminal offence will be subject to criminal liability in accordance with the law, Customs said.
