The International Ladies Club of Macau (ILCM) recently donated 20,000 patacas to the private Catholic University of Saint Joseph (USJ) towards fellowships for the higher education’s “USJ Prison Outreach Programme”.
The donation was presented during a ceremony at the university last Tuesday, according to a USJ statement yesterday.
Delivering his remarks, USJ Acting Rector Alejandro Salcedo noted the university’s gratitude for the donation as well as how the programme has expanded its scope over the years and its importance within the local community, the statement said. He also highlighted its goals and features, according to the statement.
The statement added that ILCM President Sophie Lei Pik Kwang meanwhile highlighted her group’s support for the programme, which she emphasised as offering a second chance at rehabilitation and a fresh start. She was also quoted as saying: “Through structured education and ongoing scholarship assistance, the programme helps participants regain self-confidence, foster positive values and get their lives back on track, transforming remorse into hope for what lies ahead.”
The USJ website noted that the programme offers courses drawn from the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
