The Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement yesterday that its weight-loss challenge attracted 3,500 participants, who collectively lost over 12,000 metric pounds.*
The average weight loss per person was 1.55 kg.
According to the statement, the programme originally set a quota of 350 participants in total across both the individual and group categories. However, it ultimately attracted over 3,500 registrants, marking a tenfold increase on the original figure.
Following a 90-day weight-loss period and rigorous pre- and post-programme measurements, 80 per cent of participants who completed the final assessment successfully met the target of losing 3.0 percent or more of their body weight, the statement said.
It added that all participants will receive an SMS notification today regarding prize collection arrangements. Those who have lost 3.0 percent or more of their body weight, as well as groups in which all members have met the target, will be awarded corresponding prizes.
According to a report by the Post last November, participants who reduce their body weight by 3.0 per cent or more by the end of the challenge will receive a sports watch. For teams, if all members meet the weight-loss target, each will receive a sports watch, and the team will collectively be awarded an additional 500 patacas in sports equipment vouchers.
Participants who did not meet the target will also receive a sports water bottle and a free nutrition clinic consultation, with continued follow-up support from a professional dietitian to help them manage their weight scientifically over time.
