The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a woman from the Chinese mainland on Sunday for falsely accusing her local boyfriend of rape out of revenge, PJ spokesman Cheong Un Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the suspect as a 38-year-old surnamed Jiang who claimed to be jobless. Cheong identified the victim as a middle-aged local male.

According to Cheong, Jiang phoned the Judiciary Police on Sunday, claiming that she had been raped by her boyfriend in a hotel guestroom in Zape. She told police that she had met the victim at a casino in February this year, after which they began an intimate relationship, Cheong said. She also alleged that she had been raped by her boyfriend in a hotel guestroom in March and again on Friday last week.

Following the report, PJ officers went to the scene to investigate, where they found no signs of violence or serious coercion during the time both were together, according to Cheong.

In fact, Cheong said, PJ officers discovered that the couple had been involved in an emotional dispute and continued to come and go from the hotel guestroom as normal even after the alleged rape.

Cheong also said that Jiang refused to undergo a forensic medical examination, and there were no visible injuries, adding that based on a comprehensive assessment of the evidence, PJ officers concluded that the situation was clearly inconsistent with the allegations of rape made by the woman.

According to Cheong, based on the investigation’s findings, the Judiciary Police believe that Jiang filed a false report to take revenge on her boyfriend, falsely accusing him of rape.

Cheong did not elaborate for the cause of the dispute, merely saying that it involved an “emotional” issue.

Jiang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of falsely reporting a crime to the police.
