The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement yesterday that applications for its “Career Development Internship Programme 2026” opens today, offering university graduates a three-month internship opportunity across multiple industries aimed at enhancing workplace skills and employability.
According to the bureau, the programme supports the local government’s “1+4” strategy for appropriate economic diversification and seeks to help young graduates transition into the workforce through practical work experience.
The statement noted that participants will undertake internships lasting three months. While the internships do not constitute an employment relationship, interns will receive a monthly allowance of 8,000 patacas, or the equivalent amount in yuan, from participating companies, the statement said.
According to the statement, employers are also required to provide insurance coverage during the internship period. This year’s programme has secured support from 77 companies, providing a total of 850 internship positions across nine sectors, including tourism and leisure, finance, technology, social services, retail, construction and engineering, public utilities and civil aviation, the statement underlined.
Some technology-related placements require interns to work in Chinese mainland cities, mainly in Zhuhai or the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the statement said, adding that around 46 percent of the internship positions have no specific academic discipline requirements, allowing graduates from different educational backgrounds to apply.
Eligible applicants must hold a valid Macau resident identity card (BIR) and have obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher from a higher education institution in Macau or elsewhere in or after 2024, the statement noted.
Fresh graduates will be given priority consideration, the statement said, pointing out that applicants may select up to two internship positions. Meanwhile, interviews for second-choice positions will only be arranged if an applicant is not accepted for their first-choice, the statement noted, adding that companies will begin contacting eligible applicants for interviews from July 6, while the final admission list will be published on the DSAL website on August 10.
Moreover, the statement noted, applications can be submitted through the Macau One Account platform until July 3.
