Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers seized 2,150 game discs and cartridges at Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) on March 4.
According to the statement, on that day, customs officers at the delta bridge’s Zhuhai checkpoint noticed two male travellers who appeared to be walking stiffly and behaving in a visibly anxious way, because of which they stopped them for inspection.
Customs officers discovered a large number of game discs and cartridges strapped to the waist, abdomen and legs of the duo using cling film. Each of them was smuggling 584 and 468 game discs and cartridges when they were caught.
Twenty minutes later, customs officers at the checkpoint searched two female travellers and discovered similar game discs and cartridges concealed on them in the same way. Each of the women was smuggling 568 and 530 such items when caught.
Under questioning, the quartet admitted that they were part of a gang, adding that they had deliberately arrived separately in the late hours attempting to blend in with regular passengers to evade customs supervision.
