The Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre (KIEC) in Nape marked its 27th anniversary on Saturday with a series of cultural and wellness activities, bringing together residents and volunteers at the site.
The event, initiated by the centre’s designer Cristina Leiria and organised by volunteers, featured a programme focused on mindfulness, movement and cultural appreciation. Activities began in the afternoon with an indoor monochord performance titled “Embracing Inner Peace” by a local musician identified by the organiser during the event as “Miss Alice” (劉小伶) followed by an outdoor yoga session, “Listening to the Body’s Voice”.
A monochord is a single-stringed musical instrument.
Participants also joined a guided tour of the centre led by Leiria online, where attendees learnt about the design concept and cultural significance of the site. The organisers told the Post on the sidelines of the event that Leiria was currently in India.
The session was conducted in English with Cantonese interpretation for reference. The programme concluded with an outdoor picnic behind the Kun Iam statue, where participants shared food and interacted in a relaxed setting, aiming to foster a sense of community.
The anniversary event highlighted the centre’s role as a space for cultural exchange and reflection, with organisers encouraging continued public participation in future activities.
