Thousands of runners took part in the “2026 Sands China Macao International 10K” early yesterday morning, with Ethiopia’s Aklilu Asfaw and Kenya’s Fridah Mweu respectively winning the men’s and women’s 10K categories.
The event was divided into the 10K and Fun Run, which covered 5.5 km. The 10K’s race route kicked off from Sai Van Lake Square, with runners crossing the Sai Van Bridge, passing through Cotai and ending at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa. The Fun Run also started from the square, with the route being more direct to the stadium.
Asfaw topped the men’s category with a time of 28:47, followed by Kenyan athletes Ezekiel Tiepus, who ended the race a second behind the champion, and Martin Njenga at 29 minutes flat rounded out the top three, as noted in a statement yesterday by the Sports Bureau (ID).
The statement added that the women’s category was dominated by Kenyan athletes. Winner Mweu ended the race at 32:21, just one second ahead of defending champion Cintia Chepngeno, while Clare Ndiwa came third with a time of 32:31.
In the Macau men’s and women’s athlete category, the statement highlighted that Ip Seng Tou and Hoi Long won with times of 33:20 and 38:49 respectively. Second and third place winners of the Macau male athletes were Wong Chin Wa and Chan Yin Cheung respectively. The Macau female athletes, meanwhile, had Chao Kin I in second followed by Chio Tong Tong in third.
The prize for the winner of the general classification of the 10K is US$10,000 (80,607 patacas) for both the men’s and women’s categories, while Macau winners receive 10,000 patacas, according to the Macao International 10K website. Meanwhile, this year’s “Sands 10K Presents: The FUNkiest Costume Award” was themed “East Meets West Run”, with winners receiving prizes yesterday morning.
Runners can check their results on www.macao10k.com or the ‘Macao 10K’ mobile app, and download their certificate at www.marathon-photos.com starting from 31 March.
