IAM to host 45th Macao Green Week March 7-15

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement yesterday that the 45th Macao Green Week will take place from this Saturday to March 15, featuring over 40 ecological guided tours and hands-on activities for local schools, groups, and residents at various locations around the city.

According to the statement, the one-week event themed “Passing on the love of nature to build a beautiful city together”, aims to introduce Macau’s greening efforts, ecological resources, and conservation status, while also engaging residents in caring for seedlings at Taipa Grande Nature Park, fostering a collective effort to protect natural resources.

The opening ceremony of the Green Week will be held this Saturday at 3 p.m. in Seac Pai Van Park, while a two-day Greenery Week Carnival will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the statement said, adding that the carnival will feature various themed booths, providing information on the protection and nature conservation work of the wetlands, ancient and valuable trees, butterfly and otters, animal specimens and insect hotels, and low-carbon living, as well as tips for maintaining home potted plants.

Meanwhile, the fees for the Guia Hill cable car and Hac Sá Off-Roading Track – pedal go-karts for children – are waived for the public during the Green Week, the statement said.

Moreover, a brand-new themed activity “Ecological Encounter in Seac Pai Van”, where guided tours will lead participants through the newly built pavilion of herptiles*, the aviary and butterfly garden, the statement said.

The statement added that one of the spotlights activities, the “Walking and Tree Conservation Activity of the 45th Macao Green Week”, will take place on March 15 at Taipa Grande Nature Park, allowing participants to plant and take care of tree saplings planted in Taipa Grande.

Moreover, the bureau will continue to organise eco-tours in Hengqin to provide the public with more opportunities to get close to nature there.

The statement noted that this year’s Green Week will also feature China’s Arbour Day with a “commemorative envelope distribution and postmark cancellation activity for China’s Arbour Day”, which will be held in the city’s main square, Largo do Senado, on March 12. Throughout the Green Week, six “Citywide Love for Greenery – Plant Distribution” activities will be held in various districts across Macau.
