The Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced in a statement yesterday that in order to speed up fare payment and enhance bus operational efficiency, after coordination and testing, the WeChat Pay (its Chinese mainland and Hong Kong versions) and Alipay (the Chinese mainland version) have introduced a bus “Companion Code” feature starting yesterday, which allows passengers to simultaneously pay the bus fares for up to two additional companions.
Using the “Companion Code” payment methods, the fare per person per trip is 6 patacas, and no fare discounts or transfer concessions are applicable, the statement added.
The statement noted that the Transport Bureau has been in continuous communication with the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM), Macau’s two public bus companies, and payment service providers to develop a wider range of electronic payment methods for public buses, further facilitating public use of Macau’s bus services.
The Transport Bureau will closely monitor the effectiveness of the new payment options and continue to actively coordinate the introduction of other payment methods to further facilitate travel for both residents and tourists, according to the statement.
