The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) urged residents in a statement yesterday to remain vigilant after receiving reports of fraudulent SMS messages impersonating the bureau and attempting to obtain personal information.
According to CTT, the scam messages claim to be from the bureau and request recipients to re-verify their SIM card registration under the pretext of combating telecommunications fraud.
The messages typically include links directing recipients to fraudulent websites, where they are prompted to provide personal details, the statement said, clarifying that CTT will never send SMS messages containing website links, nor will it request citizens to submit personal data or credit card information through such means.
The bureau reminded the public to stay alert and strengthen awareness of scam prevention.
Residents who suspect they have encountered a scam are advised to contact the Judiciary Police (PJ) Anti-Fraud Enquiry Hotline on 8800 7777 or call the emergency hotline on 993 for assistance.
