According to a statement provided by Macau’s Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) yesterday, a policy briefing session on the 2026 Joint Support Scheme for Industry–University–Research Projects between Macau and Hengqin was held in the Guangdong–Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin last Tuesday, bringing together government officials and representatives from the technology sector.
The session was jointly organised by FDCT and the Economic Development Bureau of the Cooperation Zone (ECDHengqin). Vincent U U Sang, chairman of the FDCT Administrative Council, and Wu Chuangwei, director of ECDHengqin, delivered speeches, while more than 100 representatives from technology firms in Macau and Hengqin attended, the statement noted.
U said in the statement that the central authorities’ 2025 Central Economic Work Conference in Beijing last month reaffirmed the development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as an international science and technology innovation centre, adding that cooperation under the model of “R&D in Macao + transformation in Hengqin” is advancing steadily.
R&D stands for “Research and Development”.
He noted that promoting industry–university–research collaboration has been identified as one of the FDCT’s key tasks for this year, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Wu highlighted that the session focused on sharing the core elements of the joint support policy and application requirements, the statement said, adding that he encouraged enterprises to proactively connect with Macau’s higher education and research institutions, put forward technical needs, and engage in deeper cooperation to enhance competitiveness and facilitate the transformation of research in Hengqin.
FDCT and ECDHengqin officials also provided details of application procedures, evaluation criteria and implementation requirements, including co-investment obligations and a maximum project duration of three years, the statement said.
