Macau’s University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Guangzhou College of Commerce (GCC) have signed a new agreement to deepen their academic collaboration, according to a recent statement from the private Catholic university.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony on USJ’s Ilha Verde campus last Thursday.

According to the statement, the agreement builds upon an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance academic exchange and talent development within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The partnership will focus on areas including faculty and student exchanges, short-term study visits, and joint research initiatives, the statement noted. The agreement aims to leverage Macau’s “distinctive role as a bridge” between the Chinese mainland and the world’s nine Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) within the GBA framework.

The USJ delegation was led by Vice-Rector for Student Life Teresa Loong (農韻淇). The GCC delegation was headed by Vice President Zhou Peng (周鵬).

The statement concluded that the agreement is a strategic step for both institutions, with the goal of cultivating globally minded professionals equipped to contribute to regional development.
