The Macao Orchestra (OM) will present a three-concert series later this month dedicated to the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, according to a recent statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
The “Tribute to Mozart*” series will be held from January 23 to 25, with performances at São Domingos Church and the Cathedral in the city centre. According to the statement, three “internationally renowned” violinists will perform the complete cycle of Mozart’s five violin concertos.
The first concert, “The Gift of Genius”, will feature Bulgarian violinist Svetlin Roussev performing three early violin concertos on January 23, starting at 8 p.m., at São Domingos (St Dominique) Church. The second concert, “Essential Classics”, will start at 8 p.m. the next day at the Cathedral. It will mark the Macau debut of 17-year-old violinist Zhang Aozhe (章奧哲) from Hebei. The final concert is on January 25 and titled “Forever Classics”, which will be commence at São Domingos Church at 5 p.m., featuring violinist Yu‑Chien Tseng (曾宇謙) from Taipei performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5.
The statement noted that each concert will be preceded by a talk hosted by local music scholar Katy Ieong Cheng Ho Weatherly. Additional outreach activities, including masterclasses and meet-the-musician sessions are also slated to be held from January 21 to 25, the statement said.
Tickets for the concerts are priced at 150 patacas and are available through the Macau Ticketing website. Each performance will last approximately one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes without an interval.
