The Judiciary Police (PJ) announced in a statement on Friday that they have launched a Threads* account to promote their ongoing fight against crime.

According to the statement, in order to continuously expand the reach of crime prevention publicity and align with the habits of contemporary youth who primarily obtain information through the internet and from social platforms, the Judiciary Police officially launched their “Threads” official account, “pjmacao”, on Friday.

The statement said that information will be disseminated in a concise, easy-to-understand, and visual format, accurately delivering updates on Macau’s public security conditions and crime prevention-related content. By leveraging user comments and shares, the reach of this kind of information among the public, particularly the youth demographic, will be expanded, the statement said.

The statement noted that the initiative will provide the Judiciary Police with a new channel for interacting with young people. Through the platform, according to the statement, opinions and suggestions from the youth demographic can be collected, enabling continuous optimisation of policing efforts and crime prevention strategies to align more closely with young people’s preferences. This approach not only helps achieve comprehensive coverage of crime prevention information but also effectively enhances awareness of crime prevention among local youth, the statement said.

Since 2015, according to the statement, the Judiciary Police have actively developed diversified communication channels, combining online and offline methods to promote crime prevention education. The Judiciary Police have progressively established multiple official social media accounts, including the “nam.pjmacao” and “PJadvise” Facebook pages, an official YouTube channel, and official accounts on Instagram, WeChat, Video Channel, Weibo, Douyin, Toutiao, and Xiaohongshu, totalling 10 platforms, the statement said.

According to the statement, through posts, short videos, and other formats on social media platforms, these efforts have strengthened public attention to crime prevention information, significantly contributing to the promotion of police-community cooperation and the dissemination of crime prevention messages.

Members of the public need only search for “pjmacao” on “Threads” to follow the official account and browse the latest police updates and engaging short videos.

*Threads is a text-based social media platform developed by Meta Platforms (the company behind Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp). Launched on July 5, 2023, it serves as a direct competitor to X (formerly Twitter), focusing on short-form public conversations, like microblogging. – Grok
