The 41st issue of the trilingual Books and the City magazine is out now, this time taking on the theme “Art Heals Life”.
With 3,000 free copies available, the latest issue focuses on topics such as art therapy, spiritual healing and positive energy, while “art therapists” also discuss how art can heal emotions and foster self-exploration, according to a statement by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.
Highlights in the new issue include the “Library Handbook” introducing community activities organised by the bureau’s Public Library such as “Library e-Learning”, which assists seniors in navigating the digital world, and the “Healthy Living Workshops” activity that teaches methods for physical and mental well-being, the statement said. Readers are also introduced to the process from book acquisition and book shelving*, among others.
The “Author’s Say” section, meanwhile, features an interview with Zhang Weimin as he discusses his Chinese translation work, The Book of Disquiet (O Livro do Desassossego), the statement said, providing an “in-depth interpretation of the literary world created by the poet Fernando Pessoa using his alternate selves”.
This issue also introduces the Public Library’s “Healing Reading List” and “Healing Reading Corner”, while the section “New Launch” showcases “therapeutic books” and 10 trilingual book reviews.
One can find the free copies at the bureau’s branch libraries, higher education institutions, the Tap Seac Gallery, several bookshops, and cultural and art facilities across the city, while the online version is on www.library.gov.mo
*Book shelving refers to the system or process of arranging and storing books on shelves. It can encompass both the physical furniture used (like bookshelves or bookcases) and the organisational methods applied to categorise books based on various criteria. – Poe
