An off-duty Macau Public Security Police (PSP) officer is suspected of driving under the influence after colliding early yesterday morning, Christmas Eve, with a flowerbed on the roadside and a metal pole before fleeing the scene in Rua da Barca in the peninsula's “Three Lamps” neighbourhood, according to a police statement and local Chinese-language media reports.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecution’s Office (MP) for further investigation.
The law enforcement authorities expressed “sadness” over the fact that a police officer is suspected of violating the law and discipline, and have initiated disciplinary procedures against the 31-year-old officer.
According to reports, the officer faces charges for drunk driving and a hit-and-run offence for leaving his vehicle after the collision, as well as for other traffic violations.
