The topics that local artist Sunny Sit Ka Kit is tackling in his paintings are of identity formation and the “responsibility of viewing” through 15 works displayed at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) gallery.

Ending on Saturday, the exhibition is titled “Shaping. Viewing the Scene” and features works that were all created with oils that take inspiration from Sit’s experiences as a husband and father to explore its themes. It is divided into two series: “Private Space” and “Public Space”, with fellow artist Kit Tam Chon curating the works.

According to a statement on the FRC website, “Private Space” sees Sit draw on his family experiences as a starting point and, using calm and careful brushwork, he shows the complex feelings of fatherhood, responsibility, and freedom on canvas.

Sit’s “Public Space” series, meanwhile, looks at social media and public events, reflecting on his “bystander perspective” to explore themes like ethics, the pressure people feel from society, and what it means to exist, according to the statement.

Sit serves as the vice-director of the Macau Youth Art Association and a director of the Macau Artist Society. He has garnered various awards and nominations across the Greater Bay Area (GBA), among which have been recognised in the 2023 National Arts Fund Young Artistic Creative Talent Support Programme and has received multiple prizes from the Macao Visual Arts Exhibition such as the “Excellent Work Award” and “Youth Artist Award”, as listed in a statement at the gallery. During the Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023, his work was also featured in the Collateral Exhibition.

In terms of exhibitions, in addition to Macau, he has held solo exhibitions in Guangzhou and Zhongshan.

Moreover, he works as a guest lecturer at City University of Macau (CityU) and the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), and is pursuing a PhD in Fine Arts.

The exhibition is organised by the gallery in conjunction with the Macau Youth Art Association and the Macau Artist Society. The gallery is located at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande (澳門南灣大馬路). It is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and tomorrow, and from 3 p.m. through 7 p.m. on Saturday.
