The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement on Friday that Macau’s average temperature this winter, which means during the months of December to February, is forecast to be normal to above-normal, while accumulated precipitation for the season is expected to be normal to below-normal.

The statement said that this year’s winter weather would be affected by the northern cold high-pressure area, pointing out that when a cold high-pressure system moves southward and forms a frontal boundary, the subsequent passage of the frontal boundary will bring cold and dry weather to Macau under the influence of the winter monsoon.

According to the observatory, the sea surface temperature in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean continues to drop, leading to “La Niña”* status. Comprehensive weather forecast data shows that “La Niña” status will be maintained throughout winter, the statement said.
