The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a local man for stealing a helmet so that he could give his friend a lift, PSP spokesman Lei Chan Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lei did not disclose the friend’s gender.
Lei identified the suspect as a senior business development manager in his 40s surnamed Tse.
According to Lei, PSP officers received a report from the male victim last Friday that when he had parked his motorcycle on Rua de Lagos in Taipa last Thursday he left his helmet on the seat and walked away.
Lei said that upon returning around 25 minutes later the victim discovered that his helmet had vanished without trace so he decided to report it to the police early Friday last week, declaring a loss of 890 patacas.
According to Lei, PSP officers identified Tse through CCTV footage. At 11 a.m. last Friday, PSP officers apprehended Tse in Nape and recovered the stolen helmet from the carpark on Rua do Canal Novo (涌河新街) in Areia Preta district.
Lei said that Tse claimed that he had stolen the helmet that day so that he could give his friend a lift.
Tse has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation.
