Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement on Saturday that its officers seized 248 Disney dolls at Gongbei Port (checkpoint) from a woman arriving from Macau last Tuesday.
According to the statement, customs officers at the checkpoints Passenger Inspection Hall noticed a female mainlander whose two suitcases showed some abnormalities during a routine X-ray scan.
Upon inspection, customs officers discovered a large quantity of Disney soft toys in the luggage, totalling 248 items. The Zhuhai-bound smuggler said that the purpose of carrying the dolls was to resell them for a profit.
In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding and taking goods subject to customs duties into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.
The statement did not clarify whether the Disney soft toys were counterfeit or genuine merchandise.
Macau Customs seizes frozen cooked pork tripe worth 35,000 patacas
Meanwhile, Macau Customs Service officers raided a parallel-trading den in the peninsula’s northern district on Thursday where they seized 1.2 tonnes of frozen cooked pork tripe (急凍熟豬肚) worth around 35,000 patacas in total.
According to a statement on Thursday night, customs officers caught a 25-year-old local woman who ran the business and hired parallel traders to smuggle frozen cooked pork tripe from Macau to the mainland.
The woman will be fined in compliance with the relevant provisions listed in the External Trade Law, the statement said.
Moreover, the statement added, the woman violated the Food Safety Law as the supposedly frozen cooked pork tripe was stored merely at room temperature, adding that the Customs Service has meanwhile transferred the case to the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) for follow-up action.
