The two-weekend “2025 GEG Lusofonia Festival” will start tonight at 7 p.m. at Taipa Houses, again showcasing the culture of Portuguese-speaking communities in Macau through a raft of activities, cultural booths, gastronomy, dance and music performances in its colourful programme.
This year marks the festival’s 28th edition. The event is sponsored by integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG).
Held in parallel with the 7th Encounter in Macau – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, the festival will run from tonight through Sunday and from next Friday through next Sunday.
According to a recent statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the event this year places a special focus on “Angolan culture with a presentation of local delicacies and visual arts”.
Booths will be set up by local Portuguese-speaking Communities from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, India’s Goa, Damão and Diu, and the Macanese community, the statement said.
Customarily, the term “Macanese” denotes Macau’s community of Portuguese-Asian extraction and its diaspora.
Music and dance artistes from the 10 Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, along with over 40 local Portuguese-speaking artistes, have been invited to perform at the Amphitheater of Taipa Houses and on the secondary stage in Largo do Carmo, the statement said.
Moreover, culinary delights will also be available along with a variety of games.
