GBA Police Games in Macau aims to strengthen 3 regions’ security cooperation

The 3rd “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Police Games” started yesterday, aiming to strengthen regional security cooperation and deepen collaboration between the three regions and jointly strengthen the security shield of the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The GBA competition ends on Friday.

The four-day games’ opening ceremony was held at the University of Macau (UM), themed “Greater Bay Area Unity, Bolstering Development,” reflecting the shared commitment of the three regions to enhance collaborative security and foster sustainable growth across the conurbation through strengthened police cooperation. Over 300 officers and athletes from the police forces of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau attended the opening ceremony.

Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak noted in a speech that the games feature six major competitions, including pistol shooting, dragon boat racing, seven-a-side football, three-skill challenge*, badminton, and table tennis.

Wong added that the event comprehensively showcases the professional competence and sporting spirit of the police forces from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, aiming to further enhance exchanges. Wong also pointed out that friendly matches for officers are also part of the programme, such as pistol shooting, indoor rowing, and badminton.

Wong added that the 15th National Games will be held across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau next month, which marks the first time the three regions have co-hosted the event, adding that the National Games will build on a solid foundation of long-term and effective cooperation, and the police forces of the three jurisdictions will collaborate seamlessly to successfully complete all security tasks for the event, ensuring its smooth progress.

Meanwhile, the “Macau Team” won yesterday’s 200-Metre Dragon Boat Race, clocking up 47:373 seconds; in second place was the “Guangdong Team” with a time of 49:010 seconds, followed by the “Hong Kong Team” at 51:198 seconds.

Moreover, yesterday also featured the 500-Metre Dragon Boat Race, during which the “Macau Team” claimed the top spot at 2:07.890 minutes. The second and third spots were taken by the “Guangdong Team” and “Hong Kong Team” teams at 2:11.452 minutes and 2:17.148 minutes respectively.
