The “Jacone’s Tower” exhibition has opened in a restored historic building on Travessa dos Poços in Macau.

The exhibition is curated by Cindy Ng Sio Ieng from Macau and Feng Yan from Shenzhen, and it stands out as one of the Local Curatorial Projects featured in Art Macao 2025.

This multi-disciplinary art show brings together the works of six artists from both Macau and the Chinese mainland. Through a diverse range of installations, multimedia, video, music, and performance art, the exhibition seeks to explore and honour the legacy of Wu Li, a renowned painter, poet, devout Catholic, and Jesuit missionary priest from Jiangsu.

Wu Li settled in the Travessa dos Poços (大井巷) neighbourhood, then known as Liang Shui Jing Village (涼水街), during his time in Macau. At that time, he referred to himself as “Jacone”. Although he originally planned to travel to Rome, he never made the journey and ultimately remained in Macau for three years.

The curators and participating artists aim to reflect on Wu Li’s unique cultural journey and his influence on Macau’s evolving identity, creating a dialogue that bridges past and present, East and West.

Earlier this month, The Macau Post Daily published an in-depth interview with the curators, in which they shared insights into their vision for the exhibition and discussed how Wu Li’s life and artistic contributions inspired the project. Readers who wish to learn more about the curators’ perspectives and the exhibition’s conceptual background can access the full interview at https://www.macaupostdaily.com/news/25893.

The exhibition will run until November 16, and it will be open daily from 12 a.m. to 7 p.m. except on Mondays when the venue is closed. The exhibition takes place at 3 Travessa dos Poços, a location that is itself steeped in historical significance.

During the exhibition period, guided public tours in Mandarin will be available every Sunday. Visitors who prefer tours in English or Portuguese are encouraged to secure their place in advance by emailing the organising team at newmediaartmo@gmail.com.
