The Macau team “Just do” won the gold award at the “Coding4Integrity Asian Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon”* in Hong Kong last week, according to a statement from Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) on Monday.

The event was co-hosted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption of Hong Kong (ICAC), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), the statement said.

The CCAC organised the Macau preliminary round in May, selecting two teams to advance to the Hong Kong contests, according to the statement.

With support from the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM), the statement said, both Macau teams received professional training. At the grand finale last Friday, the prototypes were judged on relevance, impact, presentation, technical execution and innovation. Both teams received the “Friend of Hong Kong” award, the statement said.

The statement added that the “Just do” team members – Sam Ka Lok, Loi Nga Hei, and Cai Pei Jun – impressed the judges with their prototype “BidTrust”, an AI-powered public procurement analysis platform designed to prevent graft. The team also received the “Audience’s Favourite” award, standing out among 14 teams from across Asia, the statement said, adding that the solution aims to help public entities enhance the efficiency of assessing documents and detecting irregularities to prevent corruption.

Reflecting on the experience, the statement quoted Sam as saying that the Hackathon deepened his understanding of anti-corruption efforts and inspired him to put the team’s knowledge into practice. Meanwhile, Cai was quoted as saying that it was “a fruitful exchange that broadened his international vision”, and Loi expressed hope for continued exchanges to showcase Macau youth on the global stage.

The statement added that “Just do” is scheduled to present their project at the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in Doha, Qatar, at the end of the year following their victory.

CCAC commended the participants’ dedication and said it would continue to create opportunities for local youth to broaden their horizons and contribute to integrity-building in Macau and the nation, the statement concluded.

The statement did not mention the team members’ ages or their academic and professional backgrounds.
