Shenzhen Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers nabbed a man for smuggling an e-cigarette in his rectum.
The statement said that while monitoring inbound travellers, customs officers at the Shenzhen Bay Control Point noticed a male arrival entering the customs control area without declaring any goods so officers proceeded to conduct a routine inspection.
The statement did not say when the case occurred.
During the inspection, according to the statement, the traveller was observed frequently covering his buttocks with his hands. A follow-up inspection revealed an e-cigarette concealed within his anal cavity. The e-liquid inside was “brownish in colour”, with a gross weight of 12.86 grammes, the statement said.
The e-liquid, the statement said, was identified by the Forensic Centre of the Shenzhen Customs Anti-Smuggling Bureau as containing tetrahydrocannabinol* (THC).
In the statement, the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) emphasised that cannabis is listed in the “Catalogue of Narcotic Drugs (2013 Edition)”, pointing out that it is classified as a controlled narcotic drug in the Chinese mainland.
In accordance with the Regulations on the Administration of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, the state exercises control over medicinal plants used for narcotic drugs, as well as over narcotic and psychotropic substances themselves, the statement said.
Furthermore, Article 347 of the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) stipulates that whoever smuggles, traffics, transports, or manufactures narcotic drugs, regardless of the quantity involved, shall be held criminally responsible and face criminal punishment.
*Tetrahydrocannabinol, most commonly known as THC, is the primary psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa). It is responsible for the “high” or euphoric sensation associated with marijuana use. – DeepSeek
