A local man was arrested on Friday for stealing 18 food items valued at 220 patacas from a supermarket, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the suspect as a male in his forties, surnamed Si Tou, who told the police that he’s jobless.

According to Cheong, the police received on Friday a report from a security guard about shoplifting at a supermarket on Rua da Praia do Manduco (下環街). Upon arrival, the guard told the police that Si Tou took a carton of milk and a bag of vegetables out of his reusable bag which he put on the counter so he could pay the cashier for them. However, there were several more items in the bag that had not been paid for. The security guard immediately intercepted him at the supermarket exit and reported the case to the police.

Cheong noted that Si Tou shoplifted a total of 18 items, including snacks, other kinds of food and drinks, amounting to 220 patacas. Under questioning, Si Tou admitted to stealing the items from the supermarket.

Si Tou has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
