A new exhibition titled “Macau Grand Prix Museum X The Pirelli Legend” kicked off at the Macau Grand Prix Museum in Zape yesterday afternoon, offering racing enthusiasts and other museumgoers a glimpse into the Italian tyre manufacturer and its partnership with the annual racing event.
The exhibition is located in the basement of the museum and features nine types of tyres. Among them, according to a Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) statement yesterday, are a special edition tyre featuring dragon patterns that was donated to the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee last year, seven motorsport tyre models used in the Macau Grand Prix, and one Formula 1 tyre.
There are also photos and videos, along with information displays about the Milan-based manufacturer, which is the among the world’s largest tyre-manufacturers and was founded in 1872.
A statement displayed at the museum noted that the partnership between Pirelli and the Macau Grand Prix began in 2016. “Pirelli’s cooperation with the Macau Grand Prix has evolved from a single supply to a long-term technical partnership, which not only promotes the safety and competitive level of the race, but also deepens the connection with local traditions through culturally customised products such as the tyres with dragon decorations”, the statement pointed out.
The tyre manufacturer annually participates in over 350 motor and motorcycle races worldwide, noted another display.
The MGTO statement pointed out that MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said in a speech at yesterday’s opening of the exhibition that she expects that visitors can “gain new insights into the sophisticated techniques behind motor races from a fresh angle offered by the themed exhibition”.
The exhibition runs until March 2. One can visit the exhibition on Wednesdays to Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.
