The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday that the “Treasure of Sacred Art of St. Joseph’s Seminary” will close for good next Wednesday, September 17, as requested by the Macau Catholic Diocese concerning the future use of the seminary.
Jointly established by Cultural Affairs Bureau and the diocese in October 2016, the museum has showcased religious artworks, church literature, ceremonial items, and multimedia archives of historical value, the statement noted, adding that for over nine years, the exhibition hosted guided tours and educational activities, drawing tens of thousands of residents and tourists alike.
The bureau and the diocese underscored the initiative’s contributions to educational promotion, cultural preservation, and academic research, noting its role in deepening understanding of Catholicism’s influence on Macau’s urban development, the statement noted.
Both reaffirmed that they will continue to collaborate in the preservation of religious art, relics, and world cultural heritage to provide the community with “higher-quality and more inspiring” cultural resources, the statement said.
After September 17, members of the public who wish to view the exhibition content of the Treasure of Sacred Art of St. Joseph’s Seminary may log in to the “Online Exhibition Catalog” (www.macauddahpc.org/treasure-of-sacred-art-of-st-josephs-seminary), the website of the Diocesan Department of Historical Archives and Cultural Heritage for virtual reality (VR) browsing.
