The Cardinal Newman* Centre for Culture and Arts Performance of Macau (CCCN Macau) is celebrating its 5th anniversary with two concurrent photography exhibitions – “A Glimpse: Call for Entry Photography Exhibition” and “Echoes of Heart”.

Established in 2020, the centre’s motto is “COR AD COR LOQUITUR” (“Heart Speaks to Heart”), aiming to foster dialogue through cultural exchange, according to an information board displayed at the entrance to one of exhibition rooms, which also states that that “A Glimpse: Call for Entry Photography Exhibition” presents works by 19 photographers, exploring “heart-to-heart” moments, ranging from the joy of new life to the power of faith, with each piece serving as what the board describes as “a visualisation of the photographer’s inner space, aiming to reflect their peaceful talk with the world”.

Meanwhile, running in parallel is “Echoes of Heart”, a solo exhibition by local Catholic photographer Ivan Leong Wai Chun. Leong is known for documenting feast days and liturgies of the Catholic Diocese of Macau, presenting a body of work that traces his transition from designer to photojournalist, and from enthusiast to professional voice within Macau’s local photographic aesthetics, according to a statement provided by CCCN.

The statement quoted CCCN Macau Director Agnes Wong Kai Yiu as commending Leong’s ability to capture “the bonding between people and God, people and people, and people and objects that we often overlook.”

With free admission, both exhibitions are open to exhibitiongoers until this Sunday. It is open from Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The centre is located at 55 Calçada da Vitória (得勝斜路55號地下)

* Cardinal John Henry Newman (1801–1890) was one of the most important and influential figures in 19th-century religious thought. He was a renowned theologian, intellectual, writer, and eventually a cardinal of the Catholic Church.

His significance stems from his profound journey from Anglicanism to Catholicism and the powerful ideas he developed along the way.DeepSeek
