On September 3, 2025, a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s Anti-Japanese War and the World Anti-Fascist War was held in the morning at Tian’anmen Square in Beijing. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China, president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the commemoration and delivered an important speech while reviewing the troops. Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai stated that all Macao compatriots will remember history, honour the martyrs, and cherish the current hard-won stability.

After attending the commemoration, Sam Hou Fai remarked that during the 14 years of the Anti-Japanese War, the Communist Party of China advocated for and consistently upheld the nation’s united front against Japan, playing a pivotal role during that time. Following the smoke of war, the People’s Republic of China established its status as a major power in the international arena, progressing from standing up to becoming prosperous and strong, thus embarking on a new historical journey of rebirth, achieving remarkable accomplishments, which he feels very proud of. In the face of unprecedented changes in a century, the vast number of Macao compatriots need to be guided by the spirit of resistance, firmly uphold their love for the country and Macao, and continuously strive forward on the new journey.

Sam Hou Fai noted that the commemoration not only reminds the people of the nation of its suffering and glory, and honours the sacrifices of their predecessors, but also inspires us to overcome all difficulties and obstacles, collectively establishing a strong awareness of a shared human destiny. We must unwaveringly pursue a path of peaceful development, diligently protect the hard-won stability, firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and inject strong spiritual momentum into the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He pointed out that all citizens of Macao should contribute to national development, cultural exchanges, and world peace, writing a new chapter in the practice of “One Country, Two Systems,” and making new contributions to the comprehensive advancement of national construction through Chinese-style modernization.

Sam Hou Fai mentioned that during the military parade, he witnessed the impressive and powerful march of the troops and various kinds domestically produced active combat equipment, showcasing the new system, new capabilities, and new demeanour of our military, highlighting the historic achievements of military strength in the new era, which also boosted the morale of the entire nation.

After attending the commemoration, Sam Hou Fai also participated in a reception held at noon and an evening cultural gala.
