The Public Security Police (PSP) apprehended a local resident on Saturday for drunk driving, with his blood alcohol concentration standing at 1.72 grams per litre, PSP spokesman Wong Chi Weng said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Wong identified the suspect as a male surnamed Lei who is in his thirties and works as a public relations officer.

According to Wong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report early Saturday morning from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) about a suspected drunk-driving case in a hotel car park in Zape, where Lei, who appeared to be drunk, was seen asleep in the driver’s seat. Upon arrival, police officers found Lei sound asleep in the driver’s seat, reeking of alcohol, with the engine running and the headlights on. A breathalyser test confirmed his blood alcohol concentration at 1.72 grams per litre, indicating a drunk-driving offence.

Under questioning, Lei claimed that he was waiting for a designated driver. However, the police later discovered that Lei had only contacted a ride -hailing service using a mobile app after their arrival, attempting to conceal his drunk-driving behaviour.

Lei has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge for drunk driving.
