Macau Customs Service officers raided a parallel-trading den in the peninsula’s northern district on Monday where they seized 500 kilogrammes of frozen chicken feet worth around 25,000 patacas in total.
According to a statement on Tuesday, on the afternoon of that day the customs officers caught a 52-year-old local male who ran the den and had hired parallel traders to smuggle frozen chicken feet from Macau to the mainland.
The suspect faces a fine in compliance with the relevant provisions listed in the External Trade Law, the statement said.
Moreover, the statement added, the suspect violated the Food Safety Law as the supposedly frozen chicken feet were actually stored merely at room temperature, adding that the Macau Customs Service has meanwhile transferred the case to the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) for follow-up action.
Gongbei Customs busts 2 smugglers
Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers nabbed two smugglers attempting to smuggle 644 game discs and game cards into the mainland.
On July 24 at 8 p.m., Gongbei customs at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Zhuhai port checkpoint noticed a female traveller was walking “strangely” through the “Green Channel”, upon inspection 320 game discs and game cards were discovered strapped around her thighs. One hour later, customs officers noticed a male traveller walking “strangely” through the “Green Channel” too, upon inspection 324 game discs and game cards were revealed, also strapped around his thighs.
In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding or bringing goods subject to taxes into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.
