Macau hotel guests fall 1 pct to 7.2 million in H1

Macau’s 147 hotels recorded 7.2 million visitors in the first half of the year, a year-on-year decline of 1.0 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday. 

Visitors from the Chinese mainland rose by 0.8 percent to 5.349 million, accounting for 74.2 percent of all guests. Hong Kong visitors fell by 8.5 percent to 879,000. 

Foreign guests increased by 8.6 percent to 589,000, accounting for 8.1 percent of the total number of guests. 

South Koreans, the number-one foreign visitor segment, rose by 13.3 percent to 169,000. 

At the end of June, the number of available hotel rooms stood at 45,000, down by 3.8 percent year-on-year. 

Guestrooms’ average occupancy rate rose by 5.1 percentage points to 89.1 percent. 

In June, the number of hotel guests increased by 4.7 percent year-on-year to 1.197 million.
