Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced yesterday that its officers nabbed a male mainlander for smuggling four bottles of Maotai liquor from Macau to Zhuhai hidden in four juice boxes.
Gongbei Customs said that the incident happened on Monday night. Customs officers intercepted a mainland man at a “Green Channel” who was acting suspiciously, and found him carrying four juice boxes in a plastic carrier bag, none of which showed signs of having been opened for use, but the boxes appeared unusually rigid, raising suspicions of concealed items inside. Upon inspection, each juice box was found to contain a bottle of Moutai liquor, totalling four bottles.
The statement underlined that smuggling includes concealing, disguising, misreporting, or otherwise evading customs inspection when transporting, carrying, or mailing dutiable goods entering or leaving the mainland, and that serious cases that constitute a crime will be subject to criminal liability in accordance with the law
Macau Customs busts 7 smuggling cases in 6 days
Meanwhile, the Macau Customs Service announced in a statement on Monday that its officers had busted seven smuggling cases in six days at the Barrier Gate and Qingmao border checkpoints.
According to the statement, the seven separate contraband cases involved seven smugglers from Macau, Hong Kong and the mainland, aged between 23 and 67 years.
According to the statement, the seven smuggling cases included two cross-border vehicle attempts and five parallel trader operations; all cases happened between July 12 and 17. The local customs officers seized 44.7 kg of uninspected meat, 114 used mobile phones, 12 bottles of Chinese white liquor, and 90 used electronic devices.

According to Macau’s External Trade Law, each smuggler faces a maximum fine of 100,000 patacas each, while the seized contraband has been confiscated.
