The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the public University of Macau (UM) brought together leading experts and scholars from over 20 top universities across the Greater Bay Area (GBA) on Friday for the 2024/2025 annual meeting of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Engineering Alliance, and a high-level, on-campus forum on Friday focused on digital intelligence in engineering education.
The event spotlighted emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and smart manufacturing as drivers of innovation in cultivating the next generation of engineering talent.
According to a statement by the University of Macau (UM) on Friday, the one-day event served as a key platform for academic exchange and collaboration among the alliance’s 15 member institutions. Vice Rector Ge Wei (aka Wei Ge) highlighted in the statement that since its founding in 2020, the alliance has driven high-quality development in engineering education through collaborative innovation and resource sharing.
The statement noted that the forum, themed “Digital Intelligence Empowering New Engineering Talent Development”, focused on the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, big data, and smart manufacturing into engineering education. Experts shared insights on reform strategies and talent cultivation models aimed at preparing students for the evolving demands of the industry, the statement said.
The statement also said that several notable figures delivered keynote speeches and presentations, including representatives from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), UM, Shantou University (STU), and the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
The forum concluded with the alliance’s annual summary and election conference. The statement noted that the gathering further strengthened ties among institutions and emphasised a shared commitment to advancing engineering education across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
