Lantern-making workshops will kick off next month at Albergue SCM, continuing the aim of organiser CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (“Circle of the Friends of Macau’s Culture”) to provide a platform for learning the Chinese craft and preserving it for future generations.
The lantern-making workshops, which are free, have been held since 2010.
Held in English with Cantonese translation, the upcoming “Macau Creative Lantern Workshop – Part 25 [Advance]” will be an advanced class set to introduce participants to skills behind making traditional rabbit lanterns, according to a CAC statement yesterday, with experienced Master Craftsman Alfredo Ceynas again leading the sessions as the instructor.
The workshops will take place at Albergue SCM’s* Hall D1 on August 18, 20, 22 ,25, 27 and 29, each lasting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The statement pointed out that “lanterns have been associated with Chinese traditional festivals like the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Lantern Festival. Its [intrinsic] value does not only lie within its aesthetic contribution to crafts and design, but also its symbolism and depth of Chinese culture”.
Registration for the workshops, which are free on a first come, first served basis, can be done by visiting https://forms.gle/wzi2PgzY45ReZBSv8, or enrol in person at the Albergue SCM’s Building A3, until August 15. One can find more details on https://www.facebook.com/CACMacau
