An exhibition entitled “The Form of Dalí” is being held at the Serensia Woods luxury resort in Hengqin, presenting exhibitiongoers with a chance to look into Salvador Dalí’s world.
Dalí (1904-1989) was a Spanish artist renowned for his surrealistic perspective. His works mainly centred on dreams and the subconsciousness, heavily influenced by Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory (a term used to describe that our thoughts and behaviours are influenced by unconscious desires, fears, and memories especially our childhood), by showing dreamlike, strange, and emotional pieces, an exhibition guide told the Post yesterday afternoon in Hengqin.
A collaboration with Dalí Universe, a Swiss organisation dedicated to exhibiting and preserving Dalí’s works, The Form of Dalí opened on Friday in Serensia Woods, a wellness resort, presenting Dalí’s art and his legacy until October 20 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of his birth.
The exhibition is split into three halls, featuring 146 of his works, consisting of paintings, and sculptures made of gold and glass, mainly featuring time as Dalí had a desire to control time itself, the exhibition guide said. The collection is valued at over 200 million yuan (225,600 million patacas), according to a statement by the organisers. Some of his paintings have multiple layers of stories, with one showcasing fruit depicting human organs, others in a poetical context of life, and love, some paintings based on Alice in the Wonderland, the guide explained. She pointed out that other works shown at the exhibition include dresses by multiple designers capturing Dalí’s style.
The inclusion of a major art exhibition at Serensia Woods aims to add more depth to the resort’s mission, Rowena Zhu, director of the coordination of the property, told the Post during yesterday afternoon’s tour of the exhibition.
Tickets are priced at 178 patacas for adults and 98 patacas for students, with more details available at www.macauticket.com
The exhibition is open Mondays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at weekends.
