The annual “Youth Career Expo” will take place on Friday and Saturday, offering over 1,000 vacancies with more than 400 kinds of jobs from over 50 enterprises in various fields, covering tourism, hospitality, information technology (IT), banking, and other sectors, is open for registration until tomorrow, according to a press conference by the organisers at Macao Daily Building yesterday.
The two-day job fair will be held at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, organised by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), in conjunction with Macao New Chinese Youth Association, featuring recruitment activities, career testing (“Holland Occupational Themes (HOT) Test*) career planning services, seminars, and roadshows, aiming to support young people in “career guidance and future alignment” through various activities.
Meanwhile, information booths will be set up at the venue, bringing together public services and companies from Macau and the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, providing updated information on the sectors and respective policies of both regions, helping young people explore future development paths.
Asked by the media about the median salary for positions on offer at the jobs fair, Wong Sio Kuan, functional head of the Employment Department of the Social Welfare Bureau (DSAL), said that the lowest salary on offer for applications by young job seekers is around 11,000 patacas, while the highest is about 21,000 patacas.
Regarding the reason for the fair this time providing over 1,000 vacancies, 500 fewer vacancies than last year, Wong said that the positions are concentrated in service categories such as clerks, sales, and catering, and professional positions such as management trainees, and engineers, i.e., categories which are broad and more suitable for young people, especially fresh graduates.
Regarding concerns that some companies hire individuals at job fairs merely to “fill quotas” mandated by the Labour Affairs Bureau, only to dismiss them during the probation period, Wong said that enterprises must inform applicants of interview results within one month, while the bureau actively monitors the employment status following hires, adding that a statement detailing the outcomes and effectiveness is issued after each career expo. She also said that terminations during the probation period depend on the compatibility of employer and employee.
Macao New Chinese Youth Association Deputy President Lao Cho Chon added that this year’s job fair will launch an online test called “Holland Occupational Themes (HOT) Test” in the recruitment process, allowing young job seekers to identify their career interests in advance by using the test results and on-site career planning counselling.
