Over 890,000 patacas were raised over the two-month-long “Orbis Raffle Charity Sale”, towards supporting Orbis’ sight-saving programmes and sustainable training, according to a statement from Orbis Macau yesterday.
The statement said that the 2025 edition of the charity sale, which was widely supported by the community, took place from April 22 to June 30. The vital funds raised for the sight-saving programme and sustainable training will ensure that quality eye care “can be made accessible to treat and prevent avoidable blindness for children and adolescents living in under-resourced countries and regions”.
The 97 winners of the Lucky Draw were meanwhile unveiled last Friday at the non-profit organisation’s headquarters in the city centre. Orbis Macau Director of Development Isabel da Silva drew the winners, along with the 33 backup winners, in the presence of a Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) representative and Sevina Leung, a volunteer accountant, the statement said. The winning numbers can be found on www.orbis.org/moraffle
The 97 prizes, sponsored by 23 entities, in this year’s lucky draw were valued at over 433,000 patacas, according to the statement.
Orbis Macau pointed out in the statement: “The enthusiastic support of the community allows for the life-changing gift of sight to be presented to more living in parts of the world where paediatric eye care is scarce or unavailable. With an estimated 90 million children and adolescents globally experiencing visual impairment – 90 percent of whom live in low- and middle-income countries – Orbis is committed to advancing eye care through capacity-building, long-term partnerships, and sustainable medical training in order to safeguard young eyes!”
