Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs has announced in a statement that its officers have caught a man attempting to smuggle 2,880 TransFlash cards* (TF cards) from Macau into the mainland at the Qingmao pedestrian border checkpoint.

Gongbei Customs announced the case, which was detected last Friday, in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, a traveller wearing a grey short-sleeved shirt entered the mainland via the green channel at the checkpoint. Officers noted that he failed to submit his sling crossbody bag for X-ray screening. After being intercepted by on-site customs officers for inspection, the man was found carrying 2,880 TF memory cards in three plastic bags hidden in the bag.

In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding or taking goods subject to taxes into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.

A TF card with 128 gigabits was priced at 57 yuan (64 patacas) on Taobao last night.
