Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs officers at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge have recently arrested two male bus drivers separately for smuggling 60 used mobile phones in total from Macau to the mainland, according to a statement from the Gongbei Customs.

The statement noted that last Tuesday, Gongbei customs officers at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint in Zhuhai noticed that the driver of a Macau single-plate bus acting strangely and stood out because of his bulky frame. Upon inspection, they found 30 used mobile phones concealed behind transparent elastic bandages around the driver’s waist, crotch, and thighs. Four minutes later, officers seized another 30 used mobile phones concealed in the same manner on a different driver of a Macau single-plate bus.

In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding or bringing goods subject to taxes into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.

This undated handout photo provided by Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs yesterday shows the suspects smuggling used mobile phones hidden behind transparent elastic bandages around their waist, crotch, and thighs.
