A male non-resident worker (NRW) from the Philippines was arrested on Monday for selling drugs, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Siu Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the suspect as a 37-year-old man surnamed Velayo, who works as a cleaner.

According to Cheong, based on a tipoff, the Judiciary Police (PJ) suspected Velayo of selling drugs in Macau to his compatriots. The police arrested Velayo near his flat in the central district on Monday afternoon. They seized 12 packets of methamphetamine (also known as ice) weighing 24.84 grams and 14 packets of cocaine weighing 12.75 grams, with a total estimated street value of about 98,000 patacas. The police also confiscated 6,800 patacas in cash and an electronic scale from his flat.

Cheong noted that Velayo had been recruited in late May by a drug dealer who supplied him with drugs to sell in Macau. Under questioning, Velayo admitted to having earned a total of 8,000 patacas from selling drugs to his compatriots.

Velayo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of selling drugs.
