A local man was arrested on Wednesday for stealing a thermos worth 140 patacas from a shop staff member, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Kong identified the suspect as a male surnamed Leong, who is in his forties and told the police that he is jobless.

According to Kong, the staff member of a shop in Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (新馬路) reported on June 6 that his thermos flask worth 140 patacas had gone missing. The victim told the police that he had left the bottle on a display stand near the entrance door on June 4 while working. Through the surveillance footage of the shop, the victim discovered that a man had stolen the thermos.

Using the shop’s surveillance footage, the police identified Leong as the suspect and intercepted him on Wednesday in Rua da Tercena (果欄街).

Under questioning, Leong admitted to stealing the flask out of greed. The police retrieved the insulated bottle from his flat. Kong added that Leong had five previous convictions for theft between 2006 and 2024.

According to Kong, Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) and is facing a theft charge.
