The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) has announced that at least five residents are involved in a case in which some of them offered bribes, in cash and other forms of benefits, to induce others to provide signatures endorsing a certain candidacy nomination list for the upcoming direct legislative election.

Macau’s graft busters announced the case in a statement on Friday. The statement did not mention when they detected the case.

According to the statement, some of the five suspects admitted that they had signed a nomination form by forging the signatures of other voters.

The statement said that there was evidence indicating that the five committed election bribery listed in the Legislative Assembly Election Law or document forgery listed in the Penal Code.

The statement said that the commission has transferred the case to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutions Office said in a follow-up statement on Saturday that the examining magistrate decided to impose bail conditions on all the five suspects, two of whom are also required to regularly report to the respective law enforcement agencies and are banned from leaving Macau.

Macau’s direct and indirect Legislative Assembly (AL) elections will be held on September 14.
