Optimisation works will be conducted at the Taipa Municipal Market starting on Wednesday, with its façade set to be improved while a dining and café area will also be added, the Macau Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a Friday statement.
The market will remain operational during the revamp.
With a finish date targeting the fourth quarter, improvements will also be made on the market’s entrances/exits while there will be an installation of outdoor LED screens, along with other facilities and “further enhancement of market facilities and appearance”, according to the statement.
Though the market will continue to operate as normal during the works, the statement noted that its entrances/exits and lifts will be temporarily closed in stages.
Meanwhile, the statement added that the bureau is also integrating the aspects of “gastronomy + culture and creativity” into the market’s “optimisation” project, in response to local community members’ proposal.
The statement said that a public tender for 20 “light diet”, cultural, creative and café stalls at the market was launched in April, resulting in 437 bids that currently are being assessed. In choosing the suitable operators, the statement added that the bureau is currently evaluating the bids on criteria such as the bidders’ “operation strategies, experience and qualification, and diversity of types of goods”.
