The Health Bureau (SSM) held a press conference yesterday on “World Blood Donor Day” and its series of large-scale community consultation activities, aimed at reminding citizens to pay attention to personal and community health awareness.
The press conference was held at its headquarters on Rua Nova à Guia.
Macau Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) Supervisor Doctor Lai Fong I said at the press conference that in order to celebrate tomorrow’s World Blood Donor Day and to express gratitude to donors while raising awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donations, the Blood Donation Centre under the Health Bureau will offer special commemorative gifts to those who donate blood tomorrow. Additionally, an “Award Ceremony for 5th Time Donation” will be held on Sunday.
Additionally, Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) Consultant Sio Hao Iok said that in order to promote public awareness of physical and mental well-being, the Health Bureau organised a raft of large-scale consultation activities, reaching over 30,000 participants in total, in the first half of the year. Moving forward, these large-scale outreach facilities will be set up regularly, not only providing health information and interactive experiences but also aiming to strengthen the promotion of mental health support services, Sio said.
SSM Department of Computer Technology (DIT) Consultant Wong Polk Hong noted that “My Health 2.0” on Macau’s One Account will undergo an upgrade to optimise its user interface for greater simplicity and convenience. It will feature more comprehensive medical records, more user-friendly health management services, and the ability to analyse and evaluate residents’ health data –providing personalised support for their health management needs.
SSM Department of Community Health Care Acting Chief Wong In pointed out at the conference that mental health issues are illnesses caused by temporary dysfunction in the brain’s ability to regulate emotions and are not related to personal weakness.
Wong In also said that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), one in eight people worldwide experience emotional distress. “If you or someone you know suffers from persistent emotional instability lasting over two weeks, physical discomfort, or impaired social functioning, please seek medical help promptly,” she said.
