A local man was arrested on Monday for stabbing his ex-wife’s boyfriend with a fixed blade knife, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Wong identified the suspect as a pest control technician, surnamed Chan, in his fifties.

According to Wong, the police received a report on Monday evening from a local woman who said that her boyfriend had been stabbed by her ex-husband, Chan, at the entrance of her flat’s residential building on Calçada da Rocha (史山斜巷).

The woman told the police that she was still living with Chan even after their divorce. On Monday evening, Chan returned home and found his ex-wife having dinner with her boyfriend. As the boyfriend was leaving, Chan followed him to the building entrance and started an argument. During the quarrel, Chan suddenly stabbed his ex-wife’s boyfriend with a fixed blade knife. The woman then called the police. The police apprehended Chan at the scene, while the boyfriend was taken to the hospital with a 2-cm cut to his abdomen.

Under questioning, Chan claimed that he had stabbed the boyfriend with a car key. However, after further interrogation, he confessed that he had actually used a fixed blade knife, which he had discarded in a nearby drain. He was furious about his ex-wife’s relationship with her boyfriend. Feeling betrayed, he stabbed him during their dispute. The police later recovered the fixed blade knife from the drain, with a blade length of 2.5 cm and a total length of 6.5 cm.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) and is facing charges of possession of an illegal weapon and assault.
