The Light Rapid Transit (LRT) operator published its 2024 annual report yesterday, according to which the LRT system recorded 5.37 million passengers last year, an increase of 117 percent from 2023.

The operator published the full version of its report on its website yesterday. A summary of the report was also published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.

Thanks to the large increase in the number of passengers in 2024, the report says, the operator recorded ticket-generated revenues of 27.7 million patacas in 2024, a growth of 14.2 million patacas from 2023, or a year-on-year increase of 105 percent.

The operator also generated revenues from several other sources last year such as rent payments for vending machines and ATMs, parking fees and fees for filming on the trains, according to the report.

When including the government’s financial assistance of 678 million patacas given to the operator last year, according to the report, the company recorded a total income of 770 million patacas in 2024, down 0.5 percent from 2023.

Macau’s LRT system currently comprises the Taipa Line, Seac Pai Van Line, and Hengqin Line in operation. The Taipa Line serves Taipa and Cotai with its extended section connecting to the peninsula’s Barra through the lower enclosed deck of the Macau-Taipa Sai Van Bridge.

According to official statistics, Macau recorded 227 million public bus passengers last year. The number of LRT passengers corresponded to 2.36 percent of the public bus passengers last year.
